Our products come from….
We have travelled all over Thailand to try and find dedicated organic farmers with an organic heart and mind.
Nature’s products are best where they originally came from, this is probably the best place to flourish, to be optimally delicious and nutritious. But mankind has travelled all seas to get products from anywhere to bring them everywhere and thus products nowadays grow where the seeds are planted.
Unfortunately that doesn’t mean optimally, here in Thailand many products grow everywhere (It’s 30 degrees all over Thailand isn’t it…) but quality products come from areas where the conditions are right, for instance, there is a huge difference between tomatoes grown in the north of Thailand or from the south of Thailand.
Sure they both look like tomatoes but only tomatoes from the mountains in the north, tomatoes which experience big swings between day and night temperature while they grow taste like tomatoes should and are what we all “Delicious Nutritious”.
Our travels have brought us to various places in this beautiful country like Mae Hong Som, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Surat Thani, Chumphon, Prachuap Khiri Khan, Ratchaburi, Bangkok, Chachoengsao, Rayong, Nonthaburi, Nakhon Ratchasima, Khao Kho, Phetchabun, Nan, Udon, Ubon and even Laos.
By visiting the farms and farmers ourselves, we get a reasonable feeling of their organic correctness, organic attitude and organic ways. We can see with our own eyes if there are no neighbouring farms who do use chemicals and if the environment is right, no polluted waterways, no sewage irrigation, etc.
We have visited certified organic farms with neighboring farms 20 meters away from their crops using all the chemicals, pesticides and herbicides possible and when asked how they can consider their products organic answered “But we planted banana trees between our farms….”, this is not the kind of organic farm we buy from, this is why we personally visit most farms.
Farming is like what they say in the real estate business, good real estate is about location, location, location.
Organic food is seasonal and we do not substitute it from somewhere else when our normal sources are experiencing unforeseen weather issues making it unable for them to supply us their organic goodies.
No substitution by produce from unknown sources. We hope you understand, organic is seasonal. It is sometimes difficult to explain as the chemical farmed produce seems to be available almost year round.
Products, also in Thailand come from all over the world, even the pineapples sold along the highway in Phuket, in front of these chemical pineapple fields between the rubber trees are actually not from these fields but delivered from other destinations but the feeling is created these are from the fields behind the stalls. Go and have a look at 5 o’clock in the morning how produce is delivered to those lovely looking ‘local’ farmers.
But that’s the food industry of today, one day you’ll be buying carrots from China, the next day from Cambodia all made easy by today’s infrastructure and transportation possibilities.
